Internet of things, as a new concept with a history of just several years, is now getting more and more popular. It is borned with the aim to communicate between anything connected to the internet, with comparison of the communication between humans and machines through the internet. It is consist of sensors and the internet. When a sensor is activated by a certain thing, a message created by the sensor is sent to the internet with the destination of another thing which is connected to the internet. Through this operation, man can recognize, position, track, monitor and manage things intelligently. As one of the four core technologies, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is now developed rapidly, many products have been used and dozens of mature application solutions been proposed. The technologies and markets of LF and HF RFID have been matured yet; which of UHF RFID is developing rapidly at present, and as for MW RFID, it is still needed to be improved.The history of RFID is introduced at the very beginning of this paper, and then comes the description about what it looks like now and problems facing, thirdly followed what would it be in the future. Something about Internet of things is intreoduced as well. Based on the analysis of the needs of markets and the characteristic of each RFID technology, a conclusion is made that UHF RFID is the right one for this project. The analysis of UHF RFID system is made. With the RF transceiver IC R1000, a signal processing circuit of UHF RFID reader has been developed, which complies with the standard ISO18000-6C / EPCglobal Gen2. Then test results of this ciucuit are provided, and followed that of the whole reader system.At last, problems found in this reader system are analysed and several improvement plans are proposed.
