| When subculture study began, homosexuality subculture is a part of it. As time pasts, some kind of subculture disappeared. But homosexuality subculture exist all the time. Especially nowadays, homosexuality group catch much more attention as many eminent persons “come out of the closet”, such as Tim Cook. We shouldn’t ignore this phenomenon, and studying homosexuality subculture is meaningful for both homosexuality group and heterosexual group. This paper focus on two main point, that are what the mass media report about homosexuality subculture, and how is the news discourse when mass media refer to homosexuality subculture.This paper choose domestic homosexuality reports on mass media as study materials. Mass media represent the mainstream ideology and how they reports about homosexuality subculture reflect the attitude of mainstream. At the same time, how mass media report homosexuality subculture influence public’s knowledge and attitude about homosexuality subculture.The main theory support of this paper is the subculture theory of Birmingham School. Style,Resistance,Incorporation are the main aspects of this research to analysis homosexuality subculture. As these aspects are not macro perspective but micro perspective, the news discourse analysis are also from micro perspective such as keywords and tone. The author find that there are some feature about mass media’s news discourse towards homosexuality subculture. First, some elements of homosexuality subculture have adopted by mass media. Second, the problem of discrimination and stigma still exists in mass media’s reports, but the General attitude is neutral. Third, in the incorporation by mainstream culture, homosexuality group shows a positive attitude, and media contributes to the incorporation. In order to make a better coexistence between mainstream culture and homosexuality subculture, Mass media should improve their news discourse. Not to use discriminating perspective and use more multivariate perspective. |
