Reports from "New York Times" on homosexuality tend to be related to thepolitical and legal issues in terms of quantity; in the subject matter, concern readers’letters through close-up and reviews; for topics, emphasize law and equity issues as wellas the survival status of gays; from geographic area involved, mainly give moreconsideration to United States better than other area around the world.The characteristics of "New York Times" text on homosexuality as following: withtitles preferring single sentences and valuing information content; giving directquotations priority to indirect ones and taking neutral stand; characters’ portraydisplaying full image of homosexuals and their pursuit of ideals and values multiply andcomprehensively; confronting the government and critically examining the homosexualpolicy of the government; holding civilian perspective and professional point of views,concerning about the daily life and emotional status of the homosexuals, along withdeeply exploration of relative topics as well as social problems. However, conflict andvulnerability of homosexual group is over-emphasized in the "New York Times" reports.Compared to the "New York Times" reports, the domestic repots usually neglectthe protection of homosexuals’ equity, and instead, connect homosexuals to crime,violence, AIDS, contents of which are exaggerated, ignoring privacy, and even showingstigma."New York Times" has demonstrated an important inspiration in this area, such as:enhancement in media responsibility, balance and diversification of topics, tendency toneutrality and impersonality, restore the real image, depth and breadth of contents and soon.
