Recently, Compared with GTR and MOSFET, IGBT has more superior characteristics with higher input impedance, faster switch speed, lower Turn-on voltage, larger peak withstand current and lower drive power. IGBT is rapidly developed and widely used in VFD. That makes the product higher reliability and compacter structure. As the key component of applications technology, the driver circuit performance of it directly affects efficiency, reliability and security in VFD system.In the paper, on the base of detailed analyze of structure and characteristic of IGBT, it describes the basic requirements of has carried on. And analyses their advantages or disadvantages of formerly using the photo-electricity coupler and the pulse-transformer realized the IGBT isolation driving. Then introduced a new isolation driving technology (CLT) based on coreless transformer, the principle and the pulse signal transmission of CLT has analyzed.A application example is for an integral driving and protection circuit is designed by the core of 2ED020I12-F chip base on CLT.it is targeted at lower power general VFD. Built the tested circuit has carried on making functional tests of driving and protection. Prove the design feasibility of driving. The driving circuit has the advantages of simple hardware, small volume and high ratio of performance to cost, and has already been thrown into an actual usage.
