Long highway tunnels are the special parts and sections of transportationroute. They are characterized by narrow and enclosed space. The carbonmonoxide and smoke from automobile exhaust give rise to air pollution andpoor visibility which lead to high accident rate, high level of accident risk andgreat difficulty in handling accidents. Therefore, the high level of tunnelmonitoring system is essential in order to guarantee the safe and stable operationof the tunnel. The monitoring system gets on-going information about the stateof tunnel and govern the controllable device based on the actual situation intunnel, aiming to ease the traffic, prevent accidents and deal with the emergency.The tunnel monitoring system in this thesis consists of the network basedon the principles of centralized management and decentralized control toachieve control in traffic, ventilation, illumination, fire, video surveillance andensure the security and stability of the tunnel operation. At present, the tunnelmonitoring system presents two-dimensional images to users which are not goodenough to show the space, to reflect the real state of tunnel vividly and toeliminate hidden troubles in the tunnel promptly. The development of computerhardware and software makes it possible for three-dimensional monitoringsystem to replace the traditional two-dimensional one because the new system,by Virtual Reality Technology, reproduces realistic tunnel scene, presentsrunning state of tunnel clearly as well as improve monitoring efficiency andsupport operators to detect and remove hidden dangers.The author makes an exploratory study on the application of3D simulationtechnology in tunnel monitoring improves traditional two-dimensional one and introduces3D simulation technology.3DS MAX for modeling, and VB andOpenGL for completion of3D scene simulation realize the3D visiualization oftunnel monitoring system. In this paper, based on structure of the tunnelmonitoring system, the author introduces the entire tunnel monitoring system,analyzes the necessity and feasibility of the tunnel three-dimensional monitoringsystem and establishes the goal and technical route of the system. This papermainly accomplishes the following work:First, the key technologies used in the thesis have been studied.Secondly, this paper analyzes the lower machine control system, dividestasks for each subsystem clearly, gives a detailed design of controlling processand describes specific steps and process of programming.Thirdly, this paper analyzes the computer control system on the whole. Thestructure is divided into iFix configuration software and three-dimensionalsimulation and their applications. What’s more, this paper establishes the designand the design objectives respectively and describes the design andimplementation process.Finally, this paper summarizes the full text and prospects the improvementand extension of the system on this basis.
