Engine-room monitoring and alarm system is an important content of marine engine automation, its function is to monitor running status and parameters for various power equipment of the engine-room accurately and reliably, once the running equipment malfunctions, it will send out sound and light alarm signal automatically. Engine-room automation system is a monitoring system that consists of automatic control function, monitoring and alarm function and other functions for engine power system and its auxiliary system. Its trend is toward the engine-room integrated automation high-level development stage by the way of integration, networking, intelligent, standardization and modularization, seriation. The rapid development of communication and wireless network technology laids a certain foundation for its application in the engine-room automation system, the intelligent distributed system based on the wireless network will become the future development direction of the engine-room automation.Using wireless sensor network combined with Ethernet, developes a kind of engine-room monitoring and alarm system based on WSN, the system mainly includes wireless sensors that distribute in various monitoring points in the engine-room, Ethernet/ZigBee gateway and monitor screen in the central control room. A hardware design scheme that STM32W108CUB61 is the core processor chip of wireless sensor node module and gateway RF module, STM32F207ZGT6 is the core processor chip of the Ethernet/ZigBee gateway and controls RF STM32W108CUB61 chip and Ethernet chip W5300 is proposed, completing the hardware structure and design of the wireless sensor node, RF module and Ethernet driver part of the Ethernet/ZigBee gateway, completing the compilation of the PC display software. Through the Ethernet/ZigBee gateway and the PC display software, users can collect and read data of each sensor nodes in a sensor network.The engine-room monitoring and alarm system based on WSN greatly decreases the cost of purchasing and laying of cables, meanwhile the redundancy ability of the automation network system greatly strengthens and the whole system is more reliable and safer. Using the wireless network technology to the engine-room automation system is also facing some challenges and to solve important topic such as electromagnetic compatibility, the structure of the network.
