"Language" is an innate capacity of human communication. Visual language is a way of visual communication through image elements and visual symbol, in order to communicate more meaningful and intuitive.Nowadays, the age of digital information has provided a brand-new concept of cognition to the way of visual communication. Internet and digitization have opened up a new stage for the graphic design. This new kind of media is a collection of text, image, sound, animation and internet technology, and it has become a kind of specific visual language under the condition of new technology and new media. In this way, we could truly realize a more comprehensive way of visual communication with multiple dimensions, multiple sensory and diversity.This paper is a brief study of visual language perception through the new media age with communication effect theory. This paper focused on traditional media with the comparison of new media, analyses the conception and characteristics of new media on visual language and the more generalized unique expression form of visual language on the current situation. As for the current situation of visul language, this paper look forward to the future of generralized visual language in the new media era. The series of studies are beneficial to designers to design and express visual with the characteristics of new media. Due to the characteristic of overlapping in the new media era, there is specific requirements in the process of information dissemination. The visual language of visual communication design in the special background of the age of new media also need to be changed. Information processing from the previous production to transmission, from single to comprehensive, from interaction of directional point-to-point, both embody the new characteristics of the visual language under the age of new media and new requirements for more comprehensive visual language is proposed.
