With the rapid development of computer science technology, Online Teaching is growing popular and popular and many universities and organizations offer online teaching courses, such as Coursera, Edx and Udacity. However, most of these online learning systems require learners to watch lecture videos and finish homework,this method may apply to theoretical subjects, but for engineering courses, since they have strong practical background, watching videos only is far from enough. In order to solve this problem, after fully analyzing Case Based Learning and Project Based Learning, we offer a new approach called "project based case learning":that is, students learn knowledge by playing as different roles and doing and concluding different tasks themselves, and all tasks form a whole project. Since cases are the refinery of knowledge and experiences of professional people in specific areas, it is really hard to use a unified and standard method to describe and represent it. In order to solve this problem, we limit the area to engineering courses because we find that there are some common characteristics of engineering cases: most cases are carried out and controlled in a form of project. So the structures are relatively fixed and able to be described in structure manner. The whole passage is mainly focus on engineering field, and we use the form of project to abstract and describe teaching cases and construct a Project Based Online Cased Learning System based on it.Project Based Case Knowledge (PBCK) is the core and foundation of PBOCLS since it undertakes the functions of describing, application and transmitting cases. So how to describe and represent it is the key study of this paper.This paper mainly did these six parts of work:1. We discussed the present study of Project Based Learning and Case Based Learning, and offer the concept of project based case learning.2. After fully analyzed the concept and characteristics of the project from PMBOK guide, we abstracted the generic structure of engineering project and defined the standard structure of PBCK.3. We offered the method that using ontology web language to represent PBCK and proved it not only works well but also can describe PBCK fully and easily.4. According to the requirements of Project Management course, we made a set of studying cases for students to use.5. We developed the demo system and discuss the modules of this system, also we discussed the method of transferring the knowledge from case package to ER database.6. We showed how the case knowledge is represented in the demo system and give the procedure of using the case knowledge in the case package.It is proved that this method is not only able to describe PBCK easily and fully, but also provide the foundation of the prototype of PBOCLS. However, since we only limited our research to engineering field and with the rapid growing of Case Based Learning, applying this method to other domains can be the focus of future work. Besides, developing a supporting tool that can automatically generate studying cases is also the direction of future research.
