In the development of the stereoscopic three-dimensional displays, the demand for variousstereoscopic display effects is increasing. Chinese ink painting is one of the most importantrepresentatives of oriental art. It will have positive meaning and far-reaching influence thatChinese ink painting combined with stereoscopic display.Based on the realistic3D model, the paper introduce the research on the stereo display of3Dmodel with Chinese ink painting style in two aspects-the algorithm of ink painting style and thetechnology of stereo display. Then the algorithm is verified through software developmentplatform and assistant software. The main research of the paper includes5parts.(1) The study and summary of the relevant theory. For the Chinese ink painting simulatingalgorithms and stereoscopic display, the background and significance were researched. Based onconsulting literature material,the paper investigate present research status of Chinese inkpainting simulating and stereoscopic display. Based on the two aspects, the algorithm frameworkis proposed.(2) Render the image included binocular field of3D model. During the stereoscopic display,the key step is rendering the binocular images. The object displayed in the binocular imagesshould be kept consistent at corresponding positions. This means that rendering the binocularimages should be kept consistent. Based on the problem, an assistant view point is set in the3Dscene. Form the assistant view point, an image include binocular field will be rendered. Thisimage lays a basis for stereoscopic display.(3) The acquisition of3D model with ink painting style. After rendered the image includedbinocular field, the image will be processed by existing Chinese ink painting simulatingalgorithms. Then the texture coordinate should be computed. The image with ink painting stylewill be mapped to the surface of the3D model by texture mapping. So the3D model with inkpainting style is acquired. (4) Rendering the binocular images. The image included binocular field is realistic. Thecoordinates of the image are not changed after the Chinese ink painting simulating algorithm isapplied to the image. So when rendering the binocular images, the coordinated of the objectdisplayed on the binocular images is consistent. The consistent of the binocular imagesguarantees the effect of the stereoscopic display.(5) Experimental verification. Based on Visual C++6.0and OpenGL, the program is designedfor the main part of the algorithm.3ds Max2009is used to process3D model, i3D Photo is usedto composite image and show the stereo image.The innovation points of the paper are the following two aspects:(1) Combine the Chinese ink painting simulation with stereoscopic display. The traditional2Dink painting is displayed in3D space with stereoscopic display.(2) An ink painting simulation algorithm for3D model is proposed. Based on an image of3Dmodel, Chinese ink painting simulating algorithm is applied to the image, and then texturemapping is used to stylize the3D model with ink painting style.The paper also has some insufficient. For the3D model emphasized realistic painting, the inkeffect of the edge is quite unnatural. For the3D model with many details, the part with detailsmay be lost. This goes against the effect of the stereoscopic display. The emphasis of theresearch in the future should be focus on the ink painting simulation on complex3D model.Improve the algorithm and make it reach a better ink painting effect and a better stereo displayeffect.
