At present, the overall number of China’s new generation of migrant workers is more than one hundred million, has become the backbone of our country’s industrial workers. With the change and development of the social environment, the new generation of migrant workers and the older generation show the difference in life style, personality traits, and future expectations, and they struggled in the path of urbanization.In2010, the State Council No.1 Document mentioned the new generation of migrant workers for the first time, and it was placed the spotlight of the media. The strategy of how to shape and construct the media image of the new generation of migrant workers is a key issue in Metropolis daily, which is known as the community papers.The paper selects 1094 news reports of a new generation of migrant workers groups as the research target samples in Chutian Metropolis Daily and Southern Metropolis Newspaper on January 1,2010 to December 31,2014. Using content analysis and case analysis and other research methods to analyze how to construct and shape the media image, and reveals the problem of Metropolis daily in shaping the media image, then puts forward to the reasonable suggestions which are conducive to shaping the group, and would be helpful to the urbanization of the group, realize the harmonious development of society.The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is introduction, mainly introduces the paper’s origin and meaning of study, some concepts, research methods and research significance. The second part is content analysis of the new generation of migrant workers in the Metropolis daily, quantitative statistics on 8 construct categories from a macro perspective, and then meaning analysis and content identified of these construct categories. The third part studies the media image of the new generation of migrant workers. Through analysis, we can find that three images are constructed:the positive image, negative image, the Beleaguered weak image. The positive image shows the new generation of migrant workers is able to make self-control, actively participate in cultural activities, maintain their own rights and help others. Negative image displays their illegal crime and psychological problems. The Beleaguered weak image shows they want to start a family are not so easy, and their legitimate rights and interests is violated, they cannot integrated in the city. The fourth part is the evaluation of the medium image. It is found that metropolis newspapers reports on the new generation of migrant workers tend to be neutral. But there are some missing aspects:stereotyped reports, imbalance of image, reported sensational narrative exists, selected topic present wonders, their weak voice. According to the dramaturgy, its reason contains three aspects:the bondage of urban and rural household registration system, the metropolis daily itself factors, audience’s media literacy insufficient. The five part of the paper is concluded based on the above analysis, to the Metropolis daily, reasonable shaping of the media image of the new generation of migrant workers to make up the heart’s gap between urban and rural, to help the new generation of migrant workers into cities, requires the government to perfect the related system, Mass media to bear the social responsibility and audiences to improve their media literacy.
