According to the National Monitoring Report of Migrant Workers of 2013 from State Statistics Bureau,total number of national migrant workers is 26,894,000,out of which the population who were born in 1980 s has amounted to 12,528.The New generation of migrant workers not only emerges in large quantity but also shows distinctive features from the traditional migrant workers.They grow up with improving living conditions and more job opportunities.They have higher expectations for career and life and they are more inclined to fulfill inner pursuit and realize life values.These distinctive features makes the new migrant worker issue escalate to social and political level which also draws attention from government and society,and become a top words in TV,newspaper and social media etc.This article is to discuss how media can mold the image of new generation migration workers.We select coverage stories about new generation migration workers from People’s Daily,Farmer’s Daily and Chutian Metropolis Daily in the year of 2014.With content analysis,text analysis,we come to understand how mass media establish the image of new generation migration workers and retrospect existing problems hereinto.With retrospection,better suggestions can be rendered to social media in building migrant workers image with objectivity and comprehensiveness so that public can have a better understanding of migrant workers and help them merge to city and promote the city development more harmoniously.This article contains six parts.The first part is introduction of the subject background,purpose and analysis method and new generation migrant workers definition and review on special reference,methodology and research methods adpoted.The second is about theory basis of new generation migrant workers image,including further study on media image concept,framing theory,stereotype theory,rights of discourse theory.The third part is about content analysis of mass media coverage on new generation migrant workers,in this part,quantitative statistical index analysis are inducted for media coverage numbers,subject of report,report themes etc.to further verify analysis and content identification in macroscopic view The fourth summarizes mass media coverage in building new generation migrantworkers image,and have analysis on how media make migrant workers into policy beneficiary,survivors in the harsh society,nobler with unbending characters,or trouble-makers;The fifth part is about generating the problems of mass media coverage on new generation migrant workers and improvement mechanisms.We give reflections that mass media are subjective-oriented,policy-oriented and tagging-oriented in establishing new generation migration workers image,therefore reasonable improvement mechanisms are rendered to boost media image of migrant workers in becoming “new citizens” more smoothly.The final part is the concluding remarks to appeal to the mass media to take measures to improve building new generation migrant workers images.
