The mobile Ad Hoc network is typically characterized by its self-organizing,peer-to-peer and multi-hop.It can provide a flexible communication without infrastructure. It is applied in many situations especially in military applications.Every terminal can move freely. The topology of Ad Hoc network is changeable and difficult to predict and so on.As a result, the traditional routing protocols are not suitable for Ad Hoc network. There have already been many routing protocols designed for Ad Hoc network. This paper dwelled on the Ad Hoc network and routing protocols especially AODV routing protocol and analyzed its property in different conditions. Then we proposed optimization methods based on the study of its inadequacies. The RREQ messages might be spread floodly when a route fails,as the source node need to re-initiate route discovery process. This paper pointed this limitation and proposed an optimization method which compared the average speed of the routing nodes and selected the minimum average speed routing as a backup route. When the primary route fails, the source node starts the backup route.Based on combining the remaining energy of node with backup route, this paper raised a novel routing algorithm. This algorithm selected a backup route according to the node’s life time calculated by the remaining energy of node. The average delay, drop ratio and network throughput were compared by simulating new routing protocol and the AODV routing protocol through NS-2. Results indicated that the optimized protocol decreased the expense of network and showed better performance when compared to the AODV routing protocol.
