The current development of the knowledge economy brings great challenges to major industries, the reuse and sharing of knowledge determines the enterprises development efficiency and innovation prospects. Industrial design is a knowledge-intensive industry, all different kinds of technical personnel in design, manufacture and marketing are needed by teams. To improve industrial design innovation and efficiency, expression and management of different types of industrial design knowledge in the process,to achieve the knowledge reuse and sharing is one of the important research areas in the computer-aided industrial design(CAID)field.This paper based on the studying in the existing knowledge expression methods, focuses on ontology concept, ontology construction procedure and ontology construction tools, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of existing process ontology abroad and home for a more in-depth study and practice.For the current industrial design process, there exists some problems including the complex types of process knowledge, the missing of process knowledge and isolation, which cause the lack of knowledge sharing and reuse. Due to these issues, the industrial design process knowledge expression method based on ontology is proposed in this paper.This paper extracts the main concepts and related properties in the industrial design process by analyzing the industrial design process and process knowledge characteristics. The industrial design process ontology is divided into the total project class(the top ontology) and the other five subclasses including the market research class, the needs analysis class, the conceptual design class, the detailed design class and the user feedback class. The main concept is subdivided into project description, the overall mission, the overall staffing, the overall tools sets, the overall schedule and the overall outcome. A network structure of the industrial design process knowledge, the industrial design process-centered process ontology and the ontology library are established.In the construction of the ontology, the paper creates condition property concepts with the combination of workflow ideology. The sub-concepts extended include the taskorder, the beginning time, the end time, the constraints, the task status and so on. With the judgment of the constraints to determine whether the task will be carried out in accordance with the order set. And with the judgment of the task condition to determine whether it is abnormal to achieve the dynamic management of process and the knowledge acquisition. The paper proposes a ontology mapping method based on neural network algorithms, the properties of the concept related ownership weights can be calculated by neural network algorithm. By comparing the similarities of the concepts to divide concepts and ontology mapping, to achieve a global system of semantic consistency.In the final, the ontology-based industrial design process knowledge management system is achieved with the use of JAVA language and Protégé tool. This platform has good openness and scalability, can solve the problems in the management of the process knowledge during the industrial design project to improve the reuse and sharing of knowledge, the process dynamic control ability of the project.
