Ancient Books Publishing Industry In The Cloud Computing Age

With the fast development of technology, the technique of cloud computing becomes mature increasingly and cloud publishing gradually becomes a new mode of publishing industry. At present, the definition of cloud publishing can be divided into three aspects, namely product, technology and solution. This paper agrees with the statement that cloud publishing is a useful solution for publishing industry. Specifically, cloud publishing is a digital content publishing, trade and management mode which is based on virtual technology, takes paying by need as business model and has the characteristics of elastic expansion, dynamic allocation and sharing of resources. This solution has a considerable advantage in publishing books which have less market demand and higher value. Ancient books are relatively niche, meanwhile it occupies an irreplaceable position in cultural inheritance. Thus, cloud publishing is very suitable for ancient books in theory.At first, this paper teases out the general situation of the existing ancient books and its collection and publishment, analyses the current problems such as duplicate publication and publishing shortage. After these, by colligating the common characteristics of collection and publishment of ancient books and cloud publishing, I focus on the discussion of the possible change of the collection and publishment of ancient books in the era of cloud publishing. I have concluded its main expressions: the establishment of sharing platform for public ancient books, spreading of print-on-demand, relieving the contradiction between protection and use and the satisfaction of readers’individual demand.
