With the rapid development of sensor technology and wireless network technology, more and more researchers are concerned about wireless LAN positioning technology (WLAN). Indoor positioning is a typical representation of zone positioning which is widely used in various fields and becomes more and more popular. Given that indoor environment is complex, existing indoor positioning systems can’t reach the balance between positioning accuracy and hardware costs. Indoor positioning systems with low hardware cost can’t meet the demand of normal indoor positioning. However,positioning systems with high cost is not appropriate for widely spreading.In order to achieve the demands of low hardware requirements and high positioning accuracy of the indoor positioning system, researching the indoor positioning system from the following aspects:1. Analyzing the indoor positioning methods and location algorithm based on distance and then chooses the best one by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of them.2. For RSSI-based indoor positioning system, a detailed analysis is made about factors affecting the positioning accuracy in the indoor environment. Corresponding solution and optimization are proposed through experiments. Effectiveness and advantage of the solution and optimization method are demonstrated on both software and hardware platform.3. Making compensation and revision of the received signal strength and distance value based on the optimization of those factors. Choosing the best compensation and revision method through experiments. Proposing a new indoor positioning system based on distance and then checking its advantage.4. Researching the network,device types,data transmission method, topologies of wireless sensor networks based on the Zigbee protocol. CC2530 is selected as the hardware nodes and software programs are designed by Z-Stack.Software and hardware platform are built to demonstrate the advantage of the new indoor positioning system.5. Selecting the experiment site and analyzing the result comparing with similar positioning systems.Error of the new indoor positioning system is effectively decreased and can meet the basic demand of indoor positioning.
