NETCONF Protocol Research And Implementation Of The Operation And Notification Extension

In order to meet the requirements of next generation network management, network configuration management technology based on XML has been proposed and widely studied. IETF standardizes and eventually forms NETCONF(Network Configuration Management Protocol). In NETCONF, the protocol messages and managed data objects are described by XML, which is one of the advantages of NETCONF that makes configuration management simpler. Now, NETCONF has been studied and developed by many well-known research institutions and equipment manufacturers.This paper propose a method for extending new management operations as well as management notifications. Firstly, management operations related to statiscal work are developed. These new operations can be used to directly obtain statiscal values of a managed object such as its maximum value, minimum value, and average value. The extension of management operations improves the efficiency of NETCONF. Secondly, six notifications for monitoring the performance of the computer are developed. This paper takes CPU utilization, memory utilization and bandwidth utilization as the performance indicators. Thresholds are set up for the three indicators, and exceeding the thresholds and falling down thresholds are consider as events. When events occur, notifications should be sent to the manager so as to improve the monitor performance.
