As a basic module of the network environment, configuration management plays a very important role in the domains of application, If the configuration is wrong, it will likely lead to network outages and abnormal, even serious consequences so that network does not work.At present, the CLI is still the most widely used configuration method in network configuration, which requires the administrator to input the command manually. But the cost, the error rate and the difficulty of configuration management will increase because of the difference of network equipments, the efficiency will reduce and will not conducive to the integration of management. SNMP is the most widely used network management technology at present. Its implementation is easy and technology is mature. Most of network equipments support on SNMP. But it still has disadvantages from the view of safety, reliability, management, operational efficiency, interoperability and executing complex operation. The NETCONF protocol based on XML was officially confirmed in 2006 December by IETF. It can meet the demand of modern network management to a large extent. This thesis launched an in-depth study on the three types of configurations. First we discussed the status quo and development process of CLI, SNMP and NETCONF, then studied the content and the structure of the SNMP protocol and NETCONF protocol deeply. Then we designed and implement an internet automatic configuration tool based-on NETCONF protocol of RFC6241 using object oriented software engineering development method and UML modeling. After that the function testing was finished with path coverage. The tool has good versatility and it is compatible with CLI, SNMP, NETCONF. It also has good scalability so that it is easy to add new mode through external interface.
