Design XML/SNMP Gateway Based On NETCONF Architecture

With the constantly increasing scale of the Internet and various types of network integration, it becomes more heterogeneous and more complicated, when at the same time, a lot of problems emerge. In order to provide a stable, efficient, safe network environment, network management becomes more and more important.Due to its simplicity and high efficiency in development, the SNMP protocol has made a great role in network management in past days, which adopts a centralized network management, belonging to the network element-level management model. Since the scale of the network was small in the past, this management model is just efficient for monitoring network, performance analysis and other needs. But now, with more types of communication entities emerging continuously and the complexity of the device structure increasing constantly, the network manager should pay more attention to deploy a reasonable network environment. As a result, the SNMP protocol becomes difficult to meet the requirement of network configuration.NETCONF that is an XML-based network management protocol made by IETF is an efficient solution for network configuration. It presents a stratificational network management architecture, which supplies a sufficient space for expanding in information transmission, operation type, data model of network management. Besides good expansibility, this protocol has paid more consideration in network configuration, it allows distributed configuration work, such as information lock and information rollback in the configuration processing. The NETCONF protocol constructs a high-level network management model, not merely confined to the network element-level management.With depth-study of the NETCONF protocol, this paper presents the architecture of the NETCONF-based network management system. According to the architecture, this paper gives the concept of integrated management with SNMP-based agent, designs a NETCONF/SNMP translation gateway, and solves the problem of the conversion of ASN.1 MIB to Schema MIB, the mapping of the protocol operation, the mapping of the protocol error type. Finally, this paper summarizes the whole thesis and discusses the prospect of the area.
