TV is one kind of mass media which has been accepted by ordinary people for a long time, and it has constantly interwoven with the public since it come on the scene. The TV industry has been an indispensable part of public life. TV is common and popular in our life, at the same time, we can get to know all kinds of information without going out. TV program is an indispensable part of TV medium for disseminating information. Therefore, social educational TV programs become one way to promote benign development of the society and to enhance people’s knowledge.However, with the rapid development of TV industry, the TV program producers begin to pay much attention to audience rating. With the pursuing of audience rating, the essence of social educational TV programs is weakened or neglected. Especially those which are lack of investment and quality cannot play a proper role.It can be found out in plenty of document literature that the research of social educational TV programs are not enough no matter from the inner industry or from the academic circle. The analysis of representations of social educational TV programs is still in a preliminary stage. Most of the researchers and industry insiders who take an point of view from the audience haven’t probed deeply. In consideration of the lack of research in representations of social educational TV programs, the thesis is concerned to the representations of social educational TV programs in China.The research choose 8 TV programs which are regarded as the top 8 programs by the audience in two areas. Using the analytic framework of representations as research tools, employing the content analysis for the 8 TV programs, the research means to pint out the problems in the representations of social educational TV programs in China. According to the theories of communication and pedagogy, in combination with the demands of audience, the thesis deeply probe into the representations of social educational TV programs, in order to provide some valuable references for improve the production level of social educational TV programs in China.The research tools are comprised of questionnaires and analytic framework of representations which is the main research tool and is the innovation of the research. As to the methodology, this research mainly involves induction and deduction. Besides, the research composes the research tools on the basis of many academic theories such as communication and pedagogy, with an expectation to play a scientific and reasonable role with the research tools.It is found out that there exist several problems in the social educational TV programs in China, such as fierce entertainment phenomenon and unreasonable montage. After analyzing the problems comprehensively, the thesis offers some suggestions in representation to produce excellent social educational TV programs, in hope of providing some useful references for future production in social educational TV programs.
