Limited Criticism Of The Gala’s Language Programs As A Technic Of Governence

Since 1983, CCTV Spring Festival Gala has been Chinese new custom. As one of laughing arts, language programs have always been focus of audiences every year. Language programs are good at criticizing with humor. Tied to the state ideology and form of Spring Festival Gala, language programs can only choose partial social reality for limited criticism.Based on the method of media as a technique of governance during the market transition in China by Sun, this study employs the mixed research methodology, investigating the content of language programs, especially those programs which criticized, trying to find out the regular patterns that how did these programs of the Gala criticize, as well as analyze the significance of language programs’ limited criticism.The study considers the limited criticism of CCTV Spring Festival Gala’s language programs as a technique of governance during the market transition in China. Language program concerning and constructing the family issues continuously, avoiding and embellishing other social reality consciously, tried to make audiences misrecognize the reality of the state. Under the operation of the state, the significance of language programs’ limited criticism is to realize power of state.
