Study On The Use Of Cultural Relic Collections In Chinese Museums

Cultural relic collections are an important basis for functional application of museums.The use of cultural relic collections is critical to the onging transition of museological cause in China. Lot of progresses have been made on the use of cultural relic collections,including developing five main methods,yet there are certain limitations.What we should do is to absorb good experience from western museums and to think deeper when it comes to using cultural relic collections,in order to come up with more and better ways.This dissertation consists of six parts.Here follows the content:Part one:Introduction.I will make an introduction about the background,the relevant research findings on use of cultural relic collections as well as the significience and the methodology of my dissertation.Part two:Relevant theories. Clear definitions on collection,antiqiuties and cultural relic collcetion will be made,then the characteristics and values of cultural relic collcetion.The relationship between cultural relic collcetions and museum functions along with the relationship between use and protection about cultural relic collcetion end this part.Part three:Methods about how to use cultural relic collcetions.I have made a summary about the five main ways to use cultural relic collcetions in China at present,including holding dispaly and exhibition, being in coordination with education,supporting sicientific research, manufacturing cultural products and developing digital resources.Each will be illustrated in details.Part four:Problems during the use and good exoerience from the west.At the beginning of this part,I will make a statement about the following problems during the use:low exhibition rate,tremendous differences between diffrent museums,incoordination within internal management and lack of external cooperation. After that are the good exoerience of western museums,consisting of joint to the education at schools and communities,in addition to the multiple sources of funds.Part five:Some considerations on the use of cultural relic collections.Combining the present methodology,problems in China and good experience from the west,I would like to make some speculations.First,we should build a more scientific collection system by collectiong objects for the future and polishing current managenment.Second,all the data about cultural relic collections shall be shared.Third,we need to make the cultural relic collections more socialized and more exposed to the public.The last is to creat multiple sources of funds for museums.Prat Six:Conclusion.This is an overview on my dissertation.
