FPGA in real-time image acquisition and processing system, with other processors can not match advantage. However, the domestic research and study on the level of foreign-based FPGA real-time image acquisition and processing system is still a wide gap which in current research situation. This is mainly reflected in the performance of the hardware platform, the level of technology, device density and size, logical interface and software to optimize resources and many other aspects. In this context, the design uses Altera Cyclone IV 55nm FPGA as the core of the image acquisition and processing system, OV company’s image sensor OV7725 and Hynix’s SDRAM memory chips to build a set of image acquisition system, and on this basis the realization of a series of image processing algorithms, and finally through the VGA display.This design describes the hardware platform and the modular design logic code. Selection of hardware platforms including FPGA devices, sensor selection, power modules, JTAG module, SDRAM modules, circuit design and debugging A/D converter module and CMOS sensor modules. Logic code modules include I2C register configuration module, video capture interface, SDRAM controller and VGA display controller logic functions realization and simulation.In the real-time image processing algorithms, according to the characteristics of FPGA processing to achieve a fast median filtering and edge detection algorithm works best Canny operator, and on the FPGA platform for collecting and processing the results of a joint commissioning.
