The Research On “Solutions Journalism” Of China’s Disaster Coverage

In recent years, the frequent occurrence of disasters have brought a great influence to people’s life. As an important channel of public understanding of disaster and risk information, media has an irreplaceable role in the process of disaster emergency reports. In the face of increasingly diverse types of disasters and diverse channels of receiving information background of media convergence, the public has put forward new requirements to the mass media in our country on the disaster emergency. In addition to access to basic right of knowing the truth about disaster, "to solve " has become more pressing needs for them, what they want is not only about knowing the truth: the disaster causes, accountability, responses, but also dealing with their panic and anxiety which was caused by the rumor or the chaotic social environment when disaster happened. The more complex the disaster information, the more chaos the society is, and the more problems will be exposed. Thus, "solving difficulties" or " solving puzzles" show its importance and urgency now. Therefore, starting from the concept of “solutions journalism” which was advocated by the American scholar Bernstein, this paper will offer some practical suggestions and ideas for China’s media in disaster news report on the basis of empirical summaries on “ the Lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 ”news.A total of 39000 words in this paper, mainly made up of introduction, body and summary three parts.Introduction includes the sources of topic selection, the significance of the study and several relevant concepts, on which to put forward the research methods and research innovations.In the risk society and media integration social background, the first part is to clear the responsibility of media reports on disaster news, to summarize the current situation and problems of disaster news reported in our country, and to point out the significance of such reports in “solutions journalism” aspect.The second part presents detailed analysis of the behavior of media coverage.Combining the case of the lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, this paper will compare and analyze the China’s media’s and Western media’s coverage on it; also, under the guidance of the concept of “solutions journalism”, discussing the presence of the media coverage of disaster news’ s "to solve" problems in our country.The third part is the summary of the new "methodology" of disaster news coverage in our country-- "solutions journalism". "solutions journalism" stress that the essence of news reports is go to solve problems rather than problems found. For the disaster news,to solve the public confusion, reduce social panic, maintain public stability should be the fundamental goal of the media. Drawing lessons from the philosophy and operating practices of "solutions journalism" that can make our country’s media report truly serve the community at the time of disaster happens,so that in itself becomes part of the rescue and relief.
