With the rapid development of network application service, the Internet has increased greatly both in size and complexity, network measurement has become more challenging. Efficient and accurate measurement of network is one of the most important part of network construction and maintenance. By analyze the network measurement data, people can have more reasonable solutions when build a new network line or upgrade the old one. It would be much easier and cheaper if we could find exactly where the key equipment of the network is.Huawei Nanjing Branch hopes to find some of the key network devices (such as some router or line which is the bottleneck of the network) in the intercontinental Internet communications networks by the means of network measurements. However there’s not such a common network measurement tools are perfectly meet current demands, especially when measuring network topology. The multiprotocol network measure system presented in this paper focuses mainly on the network topology and network performance measurement. People can analyze any detail of the network by cross contrasting the network performance measurement data with network topology measurement data. User may control the measurement through local console after deployed workstation module on the servers.During the project, the author did some investigation of network measurement tools. And analyzed the advantages and application scenarios of different tools. The author also participated in discussions of the project requirements, software development of the network measurement system under the guidance of Mentor. The multi-protocol network measurement system was built in hybrid P2P structure, and using active measurement methods to get the data. The system use a variety of protocols to provide more choices when the network firewall was restrict to certain protocols. It also use the Paris-traceroute technology to get network topology data which eliminating the false link interference on the measurement results.The multi-protocol network measurement system has successfully completed ten measurement task required by the project, and the measurement data have been used for network transmission performance and topology information analysis.
