There is a close and complex relationship between China and Japan from the ancient time.They are the close neighbors separated by only a strip of water,and that have trade contacts and cultural exchange. But the history of diplomacy in modern times is not always be smooth.Although there has a "warm spring"period since China and Japan established diplomatic relations,it has became worse since the conflict occurred near the Diaoyu Islands in 2010. Ignore the relationship between two countries,in September 10,2012 the Japanese government declared the government would nationalize the Diaoyu Island. The Diaoyu Islands issue belongs to the historical issues between the two countries originally,but now it had became a territory dispute.The Diaoyu Islands issue has attracted attention from global media rapidly.As the parties to a dispute,both of Chinese and Japanese media pay more attention on the Diaoyu Islands issue.They use different strategies, different words to make the news subtle convey different meaning.It can be useful to study Chinese media and Japanese media by comparing the difference and analysing the reason. It also can help us understand the role media plays on the Diaoyu Islands issue.This paper has chosen the news coverage from 1 September 2012 to 31 October 2012 about the Diaoyu Islands issue on People’s Daily Online and Yomiuri Online. This paper study the sample by the research method that combines quantitative analysis and qualitative reaction.It came to a conclusion that the media defend state rights by using different means. Finally, analysis the cause of the similarities and differences.
