Cheng Shewo as the freedom journalist representative of Chinese modern newshistory, has made tremendous achievements in the news industry and journalismeducation. From youth to participate in the Kuomintang to turn to newspapers, thenbegin to private newspaper management practice in the Kuomintang rule, ChengShewo’s relationship with the Kuomintang officials, his attitude towards theKuomintang regime, continuously adjust to the changes of the background and thepolitical environment. Behind the changes, hidden the freedom journalist growth pathin the period of Republic of China.Based on the environment of the times, Cheng Shewo goes in for the newsindustry to leave the mainland to Taiwan, the Kuomintang from revolutionary partydevelopment as the rulers of the period of the Republic of China. For principles ofenvironment and the era of personal interests, Cheng Shewo on the relationshipbetween the changes in attitude and be neither friendly nor aloof. It reveals the deepreasons and explores the choice and predicament of freedom journalist navigate theauthoritarian rule.The article is divided into three major structural framework. Firstly, it research theage of big environment, the development and evolution of the Kuomintang and ChengShewo’s news’practice in a comprehensive overview of the background.Then, on the basis of multiple factors of individual work and the interests of thestate and so on, it discusses Cheng’s different political position and attitude of the fourstages of national revolution period, the period of Nanjing national government, theperiod ofAnti Japanese War, the Civil War era development.Finally, through the analysis, it summarizes Cheng Shewo who on behalf of thefreedom journalists, his attitude to the Kuomintang revolution from participation, support to helpless, regret. In and out of the Kuomintang authoritarian rule, in cracksof freedom or control, his attitude to the KMT changes from neutral, fair criticism tocompletely opposed. The freedom journalist’s handling of relations with party regimeis value for growth of the present China ‘freedom journalist’.
