With rapid development of information technology and the price of computerbecomes cheaper than before, the computer is gradually popularized, playinga great role in daily life. Using computer to manage and store complexinformation, not only improves work efficiency, but also highly improves thesecurity of information, especially for large and complex informationmanagement, computer can take its advantages fully.In recent years, as expanded enrollment of China’s colleges anduniversities, the number of students increased dramatically, so designingstudent information management system to digital management of studentinformation is necessary. Using computer to manage student information hasthe advantages that the traditional student management information systemcan’t approach, such as storage of a huge amount of information, less spaceoccupation, convenient query, fast, good secrecy, informationreliability, can reduce the working pressure of teaching faculty. Based onthese reasons, I designed the student information management system.As a kind of system that using computer to manage information, studentinformation management system is crucial to the school administrators andpolicy makers, is one of the indispensable components of a university orcollege. Student information management system should be able to provide fast,convenient query functions and content rich information resources for users.Student information management system is a kind of information managementsystem (MIS), including two aspects: the establishment of backend databaseincluding strong data consistency and integrity, safety and the developmentof application software including complete functions and easy operations.The system is based on the research background of designing andimplementationing of the student information management system in university,used Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and used Microsoft’s SQL Server2000to design the database and developmented tools and used Microsoft Visual Basic6.0and JSP to develop, based on the B/S and C/S architectures. This system is divided into two parts, part used by school administrators used VB todevelop, based on the C/S architecture; part used by students used JSP todevelop, based on the B/S architecture.The thesis first based on the procedures of student informationmanagement in college to define requirements, used UML to describe therequirements, and used the Use Case Diagram, Sequence Diagram, State MachineDiagram, Activity Diagram, Deployment Diagram and Component Diagram todescribe the student information management system separately. Based on therequirements extracted five major functions of the system used by schooladministrators: the five functional modules of System, Basic InformationSetting,Curriculum Information Setting, Student Information Setting,ResultInformation Setting and Query,and designed system database in detail. Usedthe Visual Basic language to design every function modules’ interfaces, usedwords and Program Flow Diagrams to illustrate algorithms of every functionmodules, achieved five function modules one by one, making them to a completestudent information management system used by school administrators. Thenbased on the requirements extracted two major functions of the system usedby students: System and Query, Used JSP to achieve the two functions. Finallytested the system in detail, designed a number of test cases, and given therunning results, checked out the system operation, to ensure the quality ofthe system.Through the actual tests, the operation of various functional modules ofthe system functions properly, achieves the expected goal. The system can add,query, modify, delete, view information for all students, and studentinformation can be managed. The system has the characteristics of abundantfunctions, friendly interface, powerful data processing ability, simple andquick operation etc.. Through the implementation of the system, schooladministrators can achieve the digital management to the student informationof the college, improve the efficiency of editing and searching studentinformation greatly.
