The development of communication technology has brought enormous benefits to society, at the same time people also have higher requirements for the future of the network:more scalable, underlying devices are more universal, able to quickly deploy a series of unique, dynamic applications or services. However, the traditional Internet architecture is difficult to meet these needs. Therefore we need to design a new future bearer network architecture to meet the future network requirements.In addition, in the research process we found that, with the evolution of network, hierarchical division become blurred, network functions in different levels gradually integrated, Future bearer network, although currently there is no clear definition, it is sense in future network architecture is not the same with the current bearer network. Future bearer network should be a safe and effective network infrastructure that carrying future network business. Future bearer networks need to be able to scale to billions of nodes, interconnect billions of devices, and, especially, provide support for the diversified requirements of next-generation services. So the future bearer network will be the core of the future network architecture, and also the research focus. The main contents are as follows:(1) We study the various schemes proposed by domestic and international relevant research institutions and solution vendors. Introduced and summarize on the typical architectures. Looking at the results of these studies can found that SDN, NFV and other technologies play a very crucial role in building the future network architecture. Correspondingly, this paper introduces these key technologies.(2) For the low resource utilization, poor scalability, difficult to deploy new applications and other issues exist in the current network, we proposed a future bearer network architecture-OCN (Open Converged Network) This architecture mainly consists of application module, coordination system, control module, compute module and universal physical facilities, it is a scalable network architecture based on SDN, has the features of open and flexible to meet the needs of future network. We expounded the various components of OCN architecture and some technical details, discuss the key issues of the architecture, such as equipments’generality, the time of service configuration, scalability, availability and security. Finally, we tested and compared the network latency and packet loss rate performance of OCN architecture and traditional routing mechanisms. The results show that the OCN architecture has obvious improvements than traditional routing mechanisms in performance.(3) Also in order to improve OCN network performance, we studied the load balancing issues which is prevalence in network. First, we lists several typical load balancing algorithms. Then comparing the similar relationship between populations of natural ecosystems and virtual network load numbers on nodes. Using OCN architecture’s convenient service configuration and centralized control management features, proposed a load balancing algorithms based on Lotka-Volterra model of ecosystem.At last, we use the experimental to verification the algorithm. The results show that by adjusting the parameters, this load balancing algorithm can effectively shorten the convergence time of node utilization curve, keep the system avoiding congestion while under high-load operation.
