With the rapid development of modern wireless communication technology, higher bandwidth, longer communication distance as well as better versatility have currently become the main goal of the ICT development. In recent years, many new wireless communication technologies appeared, and SDR (Software Defined Radio) is one of the most potential technologies. The basic idea of SDR is to make the A/D and D/A processes as close as possible to the antenna, to build a universal hardware platform, and to implement various functions of the radio station by software as far as possible. By loading different kinds of software, we can achieve different categories of communication systems, and meanwhile, adding new communication functions can be realized by just adding a software module. The development of SDR technology endows the versatility, flexibility and scalability of communication systems unprecedentedly, which provides feasible technology schemes for the universal wireless communication systems in the future. Therefore, it is more and more important to develop a hardware platform to accommodate and complement the SDR technology.Moreover, people’s requirements for the rapid data transmission within a short distance become higher and higher. The appearance of UWB (Ultra Wide Band) provided a new technology to realize data transmission with ultra bandwidth and super speed within a short distance. UWB wireless communication systems have many advantages, such as high transmission speed, extremely wide bandwidth, high spectrum utilization, large system capacity, low transmission power, strong anti-jamming capability, good confidentiality and simple architecture. It is a very potential wireless communication technology for short distance, and has broad application prospect in various domains.The main contribution of this article is to design and implement the functions of baseband parts and the PCI-E framework interface parts in the UWB software radio platform, including the circuit design in the physical layer, PCB layout and the development of FPGA. The purpose is to set up the system architecture and the channel processor based on ultra-wideband communication platform of SDR, which involves the AD/DA conversion module, the solution for the clock, the interpolation and extraction module, and the FPGA part. Also, it provides a basic transceiver platform for the research on precise positioning in UWB.
