Software Defined Radio (SDR) has gained such a lot of interest over the past few years that has been recognized as the development orientation of communication and radio technology in the future. It breaks through the limitation of traditional radio in simple function and bad expansibility, focuses on liberating the communication system from the bondage of hardware and advances the new design idea which is based on the open and common platform and uses reconfigurable software to realize all kinds of radio function.The performance of foreign Digital Transmitter-Receiver is high, but they are very expensive. Our home-made Digital Transmitter-Receiver behaves not very well in many aspects, such as the software and hardware design of high-frequency circuit is not very well, low technical level, and poor quality. And sometimes they use special component such as Digital down Converter which makes cost higher.Referring to the thought of Software Defined Radio, in this topic we try completing Modulation and Demodulation, Digital down Convert and channel encoding and decoding based on the platform composed of DSP and FPGA. According to the technical request we choseπ/ 4DQPSK. Because the cost, the system power consumption and so on, many communication, video and the image manipulation systems can't be carried out with the existing DSP. But Field Programmable Gate Array ( FPGA) is accomplished in the mission of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), and FPGA has Configuration Logic Block, provides the huge bandwidth of I/O, along with the Distributed arithmetic (DA), pipeline operation, Booth arithmetic and resources of Intellectual Property (IP) core, we can break through choke point of DSP and special component. So jumping out of former frame, we chose Spartan3s400 series FPGA to realize the part of digital signal processing part, and reduced the cost, raised the accuracy and operating the speed, simplified the design of the hardware, and it will be easy to be modified and upgraded. With the high performance and low cost, it is a valuable trial in both theories and applications. This paper will talk more about how to implement the Digital Transmitter-Receiver based on SDR, introduce the whole system, and focus on the implementation of digital processing module in Digital Transmitter-Receiver with FPGA.
