There exists visual blind zone when driver operates the crane, the operation still need the feeling and experience or the command from ground flagman, resulting in huge power of work, any carelessness, which could cause serious accidents. At present, smart devices used on the tower crane mainly used for measuring some important performance index, such as wind speed, elevating capacity, rotation angle, lifting altitude. However, these parameters play certain helping roles, there is also exist the visual blind zone. Some construction site uses general webcam to solve the visual blind zone problem, but it is only a simple video monitoring with lower level of intelligentize. On account of smaller images of hook in the video, and constantly shaking, the driver will take a long time to find a hook position, it can easily cause visual fatigue, and there are certain safety risks.This thesis aims to solving the problems about the visual blind zone during the operation and visual fatigue trouble, designing the embedded tower crane video monitoring system which is based on ARM11crane platform. The image capture device installed in a luffing small car, it collects tower crane hook and weight images which is on the bottom of hook, and it also move around follow the car. It is convenient for the driver to solve the blind zone problems from multiple perspectives. In order to avoiding the danger of high-altitude wiring work and saving the wiring costs, it also adopt the Wi-Fi wireless devices proceed video data to the driver, while on-site construction units can also log on the Web server in real time supervision of the construction process and construction schedule. Finally, the system also uses a machine vision algorithms, which uses a red oval frame demarcate the hook, in this way, it can achieve the real-time tracking of the hook, the hook can clearly apparent in the video, thereby reducing the driver’s visual fatigue.According to above-mentioned functional requirements, in order to meet the need of processing speed of the video image data, the system designs embedded terminal which is based on S3C6410microprocessor as controller chips, by means of a custom install Linux operating system to complete the build system platform, and realize device driver’s design and transplantation based on selection of the wireless fidelity and camera chip. Then develop a USB camera capture program based on the V4L2framework, after H.264compression coding, achieving video data’s wireless transmission through socket programming, and then displaying on a Web page monitoring in a real-time. At the same time, setting the embedded terminal as the wireless AP hotspots, users can directly connected, and then setting a higher security level WAP2encryption. In the end, developing a real-time motion tracking algorithm according to the OpenCV machine vision library.
