The Embedded Monitoring Camera is front-end equipment which belongs to Network Video Surveillance System. With the development of network communications, image processing and embedded design techniques, traditional monitoring camera cannot satisfy the need of the system, this new camera has become the research focus in video surveillance system in order to fulfill the requirements of low power consumption, high reliability and network monitoring capabilities, etc.To adapt the ability of real-time moving objects detection and early warning, keep the whole system in remote control mode under unattended surveillance environment, this thesis analyses the study of the camera in domestic and overseas at first. Then we present an event driven embedded monitoring camera based on ARM processor and peripheral circuits. It captures images via sensor, stores the anomalous images to local memory and sends to remote server, transfers the early-warning massages to mobile phone after detecting the abnormal motion objects. This design process mainly consists of three parts. According to the market or consumer buying trends of video surveillance system, the requirements analysis and general design about this embedded monitoring camera are reported at the beginning, as well as the philosophy of the embedded camera design and the principle of event driven. Secondly, the specific strategy is analyzed to put forward a feasible solution for software and hardware design. On the side of hardware platform mainly described the interface module layout and the key technology of embedded system and peripheral circuit design. On the side of software, combining the relevant interface driver and open source function library, the monitor procedure of image acquisition, motion detection and determination, SMS warning and image transmission are illustrated systematically base on Embedded Linux Operation System.Performance evaluation of this camera is described at last depending on the application under actual monitoring environment. We do not just focus on event detection, but also work towards the optimization of camera. To the best of our knowledge, this camera provides a novel approach to the technological surveillance paradigm. The proposed method is efficient and convenient for both office and home uses for safety compared with the traditional ones.
