The world is undergoing its transmutation and reform. The approachingof the Internet Era (or network age) has quickened our pace to catch upthe interactive transmission (or what) within our society. Anyone can rulethe media and become the center of information exchange. The netizen canbe seen as both transmitter and receiver. The interactive transmissionhas deeply influenced almost all fields, including politics, economy,military, culture, daily life and human being’s thinking. It greatlyexpands human being’s spiritual territory. The network politics has beengenerated under these circumstances.The Internet is convenient, anonymous, interactive and comparativelyfree of control. The netizen have a complex identity composition. Theyhave different preference about even the same question and could berational behind. China has been going through the economic developmentand social transition. Tons of social problems are to be solved, such asurban-rural gap, corruption and contamination. The Internet provides usa platform to vent our anger upon these problems. Start form expresspersonal opinions, the netizen can easily become aggressive and turnedout to be the network mob. The public opinion on the Internet has serious problems about its irrationality and view polarization can be foundaccordingly. The public opinion on the Internet has become a central issueof academic research due to the emergence of Internet group polarization.The public opinion and the public sentiment have put pressure on thegovernance of our government. It is a pressing matter of moment that weshould put our research of the public sentiment into an objective andrational analysis. Also, we should positively develop precautions andguidance for the government.This thesis comprehensively combines different disciplines,including social psychology, communication, politics, etc. We usequalitative method to research the polarization of public opinion on theInternet. Frist, analyze the present situation of the polarization ofpublic opinion on the Internet domestically. Then, set research priorityto the formation mechanism of the polarization of public opinion on theInternet. At last, throw out suggestions to help the government to guildthe netizen’s rational thinking, diminish the polarization and reduceits negative effects. All these will help the government to speed up theconstruction of democratic politics and enhance its credibility.
