With the improvement of people’s living standards and the development of technology,the requirements of network service’s quality are also increasing. The demands of networkservice are not only confined in calling, but also in quality. Especially under the condition ofthe increasing number of network operators and competitive pressure, a better quality isdemanded. To ensure a better network quality, a good team in network optimizationtechnology is necessary. The team is to maintain and repair network equipments to get themaximum benefits with the minimum investment; meantime the users’ perception of the callis must guaranteed. It is not an easy task to optimize the communication network. It requires alot of experience of engineering, projects, basic knowledge on optimization and understandingof every parameter.To improve the quality of Jinzhou Unicom’s communication network, the KPI analysismethod is proposed in this paper. With the implementation of the optimization program, thisnetwork has been optimized. First of all, the paper introduces the background and significanceof the subject, and describes the optimization of wireless networks briefly, which is the KPIanalysis method. The second chapter focuses on the introduction of the GSM network flow.Because optimization is a complex piece of work, we must learn the basics of the network,sometimes even geographic information of base stations. In this chapter, it also highlights theKPI analysis including the statistical analysis principles and the ideas. The common KPIindicators for GSM networks are also given. The third part describes the current situation ofJinzhou Unicom’s GSM network, including5county-level and1city base stations, located inBaiLou, Bei Zhen No.2middle school, the police station, infrastructure overhaul segment andLing He new district. The GSM network current situation and KPI of these base stations aregiven. After the Driver Test and KPI analysis, some existing problems of networks are found.In the final part, through the parameter analysis, optimization programs corresponding to eachbase station are proposed. Finally, after the implementation of the proposed optimizationprogram, the new KPI indicators are tested and compared to the original KPI indicators tovalidate the optimization results. During the process of KPI analysis, the paper focuses on the communication channel’sdrop rate, channel congestion rate, SDCCH congestion rate, network connection rate,switching problem between the cells and the interference issue, etc. Through the deepresearch and analysis, the methods and programs to the issues are proposed. The paper drawsthe conclusions after taking into consideration of the current base optimization problems ofGSM network in Jinzhou. Through the analysis of KPI, the current wireless network operatingstatus can be monitored by the current network, and abnormal network issues in base stationsor regions station can be found timely. In this way, the safety of the whole network and highquality communication services for customers can be guaranteed. In the end, the satisfactionof the users of Jinzhou Unicom can be achieved, which improves the region’s customers’reputation and credibility.At last, the paper presents the summary and outlook, the key point of KPI analysismethod in the future works and the application in3G and4G networks, which provides areliable basis for the China Unicom’s network optimization in Jinzhou city.
