Compared with the traditional way of examination, the paper-based tests are replaced with electronic ones. This paperless tests can run proofreading, scoring and calculating automatically through computer program, instead of traditional repetition, mechanical marking and scoring, which not only save time, human and resources, but reduce the errors caused by human factors. As for Fundamental Computer Application, a practical computer course, however, it finds difficulty in how to proofread the examinee’s operation automatically by paperless examination, because it is involved in more comprehensive knowledge and the characterized objects (the operation results of OFFICE). Hence, the objective correction should be based on the mastery of correlation of various objects and their property codes in OFFICE files.Having studied the paperless examination system development technology on the C/S mode and VBA development technology, the author found that the VBA technology can be applied to read various objects and their attributes on OFFICE files, so as to review the examinee’s operating results objectively in Fundamental Computer Application. Thus, the author developed a paperless examination system with VB.NET language, which includes the examination client subsystem, examination management subsystem, and the grading management subsystem.More specifically, the examination client subsystem can generate an electronic test, display the test and score it automatically; the examination management subsystem runs a real-time management of the generation, the test and the submission of the test, plus, it encrypts the scores; the grading management subsystem can decrypt the scores and exports them in a specified format. This paper introduces the background, the design idea, the specific function of each subsystem and its corresponding implementation of the paperless examination system in Fundamental Computer Application; it lists some key codes in the system implementation and presents the system tests and a brief summary for the development of the whole system.
