The rapid development of the Internet, carry IP network with a bigger challenge, including routing, QoS guarantee and so on. Previous IP network are mostly based on32-bit destination address to complete the IP packet routing and forwarding. As a result of the limitation of historical and technical reasons, there is a series of difficult problems in such a network, such as it is difficult to effectively improve the forward rate, it’s with poor performance of extensible, limited QoS management methods and traffic engineering capabilities. In order to solve the above problem, people consider a new mechanism for routing and forwarding packets. MPLS technology arises at the historic moment, just like that.The key of MPLS technology is to introduce the concept of connection to the connectionless IP network. At the same time the next generation network requires powerful bandwidth management functions and multiple service modes which MPLS can meet.VxWorks is born in1983. For30years, VxWorks has been industry standard of embedded real-time system. More than1.5billion sets of equipment are carrying the world’s leading VxWorks. VxWorks supports almost all embedded CPU on modern market, including x86series, ARM, PowerPC and Freescale ColdFire, etc. At the same time, due to the perfect support to network protocol stack and routing protocol, Vxworks has superior network performance, and obvious advantages in terms of reliability and real-time performance.The implementation details of MPLS technology can be used in the embedded platform scheme is very little, especially based on VxWorks platforms. Based on the above background, this article puts forward a set of complete solutions, which based on VxWorks design and implemented LDP protocol.LDP protocol is the most important thing in MPLS protocol. It’s mainly responsible for the distribution of the tag and the establishment of the forwarding path of LSP. This scheme expounds the LDP protocol specification, working principle and the implementation method in Vx Works, at the same time completely describe LDP related data structure and operation process of core module in detail. This scheme greatly reduces the LDP protocol implementation cost, at the same time use the widely used operating system Vx Works can greatly increase the application range and field of MPLS, which has certain reference value for MPLS related scientific research. Design method used in this article, can forge a MPLS router with very low cost in mainstream embedded processors.Working principle of the LDP protocol and the method for implementing on VxWorks operating system and test method presented in this paper,, can provide useful reference for subsequent research and related work. In a word, MPLS application prospect is very broad. It is very urgent and necessary to do the research and exploration, and make it effective application to practice.
