With the development of urban civilization, city road lighting has become one of the important standards to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of urban construction. But the traditional lighting management, in which the automation is low, the management is poor, the cost is high, can not meet the requirements of modern city management. In the meantime, the Internet of things technology, which is characterized by the emerging applications of information technology such as computer technology, communications technology, sensor technology etc., is known as the third wave of the world’s information industry development and it is also an effective way to solve the problems of urban city lighting management. Therefore, in this paper, a comprehensive analysis and research on the problems of city road lighting management based on Internet of things was made.Firstly, the research significance, research status, lighting management status were summarized, the functional requirements and technical requirements were elaborated by UML modeling method, the design idea of city road lighting management system based on Internet of things was proposed. Secondly, the overall planning of the system design and development scheme, including system model, hardware architecture, communication network, database model etc, was introduced. Thirdly, keys and difficulties in the design and development of the system were described in detail. High power electronic ballasts were used to achieve information acquisition and controlling. The technologies of ZigBee and GPRS were used to construct the system communication network. And in order to improve the operation efficiency, the hybrid architecture software of C/S and B/S was developed to reduce the burden of receiving, analysis, storage and query at the same time While the monitoring center software of B/S, took Asp.Net as the development platform, achieved lighting terminal equipment visualization monitoring using BMap API, solved the problem of slow response speed of traditional Webpage using Ajax, and constructed the man-machine operation platform of beautiful interface, rich functions and stable performance using jQuery EasyUI front frame together with JavaScript programming language. Finally, the situation used in a municipal engineering verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the system, and also the summary and prospect were made.
