This article picked the example of Progressive Pipe Line transformation of body in white in Shanghai Volkswagen automotive Co., Ltd, Using STEP7of Siemens to program S7-400, cooperate with electronic automation equipment, such as mechanical hand, inverter etc. This realizes the auto transformation of four wheel cover welding pipe line of body in white. Compared with the traditional relay control, manual fixture and manual handing and S7-400, using programmable controller(PLC) and STEP7, not only to improve the production quality and the take time of production pipe line but also reducing the manufacturing cost and maintenance cost of pipe line.This article introduces the traditional relay body shop before the renovation of the control line and expounds the way of working and why the traditional relay body shop can’t meet the present production. The author puts forward a programmable controller (PLC) to replace the traditional relay control for four wheel cover pipe line transformation. This article introduced the development of PLC, composition of hardware and software, programming language, etc. Then, this article introduces the PLC (S7-400) and STEP7.After make the needs analysis and overall planning on the systemic detailed design and programming for each modules by STEP7.The modules include:hardware configuration, roller machine class, fixture class, robot welding process, the safety circuit class, operation screen. The roller machine class including the translation roller machine and lifting roller machine design programming. The fixture class including the positioning fixture and the clamping fixture design programming. The safety circuit class including start condition and start mode, machinery safety, device interference and emergency stop circuit design programming. This article makes the physical layer connectivity, network configuration and address assignment. The article realized the transformation to automated production for the body in white after commissioning.There are six parts in the article. They are introduction, the first chapter, the second chapter, the third chapter, the fourth chapter and conclusion. The first chapter explains the basic problem analysis. It states research value of this subject and lists key problem when we are researching and come up with feasible countermeasure for the key problem and the domestic and international related technology development in this article. The second chapter explains the system analysis and overall design. It discusses the demand of system function and analysis of user’s business demand. It also explains overall design plan of system and working process. The third chapter explains design of modules. It designs the PLC hardware configuration, rolling machine, fixture machine, robot welding and operating view of working state (software). The fourth chapter explains system implementation; it describes the system physical layer connection and the INTERBUS network configuration. Finally, tests the system and records the test result. The conclusion is the specific summary based on the analysis and design results for this design and implementation.
