In recent years, wireless sensor networks and its related technologies have developed rapidly. Wireless sensor networks has been widely applied in many fields owing to its advantages including small size, low cost, simple network deployment, wide coverage area and such good self-organization, etc, but it still exists a series of issues that restrict its further development seriously, for example, the limitation of network energy, finite calculating power of single node, the mutual interference result from the uneven distribution of power and other issues may lead to a serious impact on the practical application of results. Currently, in consideration of the main feature of wireless sensor networks, namely the limited resources, we can manage the network topology dynamically and achieve the rational allocation of limited power by means of researching and implementing the effective wireless sensor network topology management technology, thus which can not only reduce the channel disturbance and prolong network lifetime, but also can improve the fault-tolerance and energy efficiency of network.Based on the ZigBee wireless sensor network topology, topology management definitions and goals, this paper analyses the specific ideas of two optimization strategies which are power management and sleep management respectively, and then proposes a hybrid management strategy. This management strategy analysis the real-time topological type and the power distribution based on the network topology visual view, and then select either the power management or the sleep management which is more in line with the status of network to carry out the optimization. In addition, by comparing the network coverage and link quality with the ones before optimization, management recommendations can be made to the network administrator with the aim of supporting a more proactive mechanism during topology management. Due to the network topology visual view is a prerequisite to the achievement of hybrid management applied in wireless sensor network. And ZigBee technology is used in the system development, which is popular in nowadays WSN application. Therefore this paper designs and implements the visualization model of ZigBee wireless sensor network, and then makes it possible to complete the layout of the network topology by initial node positioning and further sophisticated balance adjustment. Finally, the network topology visual view can provide reliable and detailed description for wireless sensor network topology management.Based on the wireless network topology management technology to develop topology management system, firstly, this paper develops a network topology visualization modules for the hybrid topology management of wireless sensor network topology, so that there has been a underlying support to achieve the aim described above. In addition, this paper makes a test for some specific radio scenes to prove availability of the modules. Secondly, this paper analyses the network status according to the visual topology view, and then chooses one of the topology managements to make a optimization. After comparing the evaluation index of topology management, this paper shows that the power management, the sleeping management and the hybrid topology management have the ability to contribute to network optimization. Meanwhile topology visualization model provide reliable data support for topology management as basic link.
