Multi-screen interaction refers to different devices in a Home Network, or a WAN that transmit, analysis, display and control multimedia content such as video, audio, images and so on. The current multi-screen interaction technologies are mainly about to solve the multi-screen interactive between devices within a Home Network, but did not solve the problem that devices outside the home network how they can interact with each other. This dissertation conducts research on how to implement multi-screen interaction for devices outside a Home Network. A protocol extension forUPnP discovery process was proposed for existing multi-screen interactive applies only in the Home Network. The extension of UPnP allows the Control Point and the UPnP devices can be remotely discovered, then the Control Point can control the devices and implement multi-screen interaction. The main work is as follows:1、Studied the standard UPnP protocol and UPnP AV architecture. The playback scenarios and its workflow used by this paper are described in detail2、Due to the fact that UPnP protocol can be applied only in HN, this dissertation extended the UPnP protocol. Then the implementation architecture of multi-screen interaction was proposed based on UPnP AV architecture. By using the extended protocol, the Control Point outside HN can discover the Media Player within HN, and then can control it, enabling multi-screen interactive services far-field scenarios.3、Depending on the architecture of involved module, this paper implements the UPnP protocol extensions, UPnP Media Play and Control Point based on the Cybergarage SDK. The problems and the methods used to solve encountered in the implementation process are described in detailed. 4、The designed implementation architecture of multi-screen interaction was tested, and the results verified that the proposed implementation architecture was reasonable and feasible.
