As an important supplement to mobile cellular network, WLAN network is an effective method for mobile operators to tap into the broadband market, and it mainly undertakes Internet data services for PC, mobile phone and the third WLAN terminal party. By complementing2G and3G networks, WLAN network improves the mobile broadband access capacity, and guarantees the operators’ leading position in the field of mobile broadband. At the same time, the application of WLAN network can effectively share part of the data traffic of2G/3G/4G networks in hot spots, so as to ease the pressure on2G/3G/4G networks and effectively increase the network viscosity of user community. By taking Shandong Mobile’s WLAN network engineering construction, management and network optimization for example, this paper performs in-depth experiments and research, with the purpose of exploring the way to constantly deepen the research and create new network optimization technologies so as to establish high-quality WLAN network, based on the constant expansion of the scale of the existing network, the acceleration of the construction progress and the extension of coverage.Firstly, this paper introduces the principles that should be followed in the selection of WLAN hot spots as well as the construction and design in the aspect of market development. Effective construction plans are made to correctly guide the subsequent engineering construction and market development. And it also states such guiding principles as high benefit and low cost, regarding market opinions as the guide, focusing on the development of hot spots in populous areas, and making full use of existing network resources.Secondly, considering the effects of different construction models on downloading rate and user perception in hot spots, the construction models of main hot-spot types established by the operators, such as universities, residential communities, towns and rural villages and group clients, are investigated and analyzed, and the optimal construction models for various types of hot-spot scenes are summarized and introduced in detail.Thirdly, the engineering hardware construction is the origin of the whole WLAN network. This paper summarizes engineering points that are most likely to cause network warnings and user complaints, with the purpose of improving the points with frequent fault occurrences in the engineering construction section, forming unified technical regulations and standards for each engineering construction section, and improving the construction quality in the phase of WLAN engineering construction.Finally, this paper conducts field investigation, analysis and research of some common problems about operating WLAN hot spots; by applying network optimization technologies including the adjustment of backend performance parameters, the upgrade of software versions, and the settlement of bandwidth bottlenecks, key data indicators before and after the experiment are compared to verify the validity and practicability of the proposed network optimization technology; then, the verified technical theories are summarized.
