So far, there are over1500cities around the world which have put into operation WLAN-oriented urban construction scheme.With the development and construction in the last decade, Shanghai WLAN has gradually taken shape. Up to the end of the year2011, WLAN covers12,000locations, with AP scale up to70,000, mainly including part of the hotels and restaurants, business office buildings, and a few gymnasiums and transportation junctions.With a view to implementing the double aim of’establishment of city Wireless Broad band Network charactered by multi-level, broad coverage and multiple locations’and’WLAN coverage of main public locations’ put forward by Shanghai Smart Community Smart City2011-2013Scheme and in the spirit of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government about Transmitting the Suggestions on the Acceleration of City WLAN Coverage Launched by Municipal Economic and Infomatization Commission, the complete coverage of WLAN is designed to focus on450main public locations with heavy crowd of people or vital functions as follows:waiting rooms of public transportation junctions and public hospitals, tourist resting areas in parks, green places, tourist attractions and shopping streets, active regions of Cultural Venues and Administrative Service Halls, and so on. The average access capacity of the locations mentioned above will not less than20Mbps, thereby providing free and comfortable services for public users. The following essay aims to establish new criteria for the city wireless construction in the future in line with the Wireless Local Area Networks Construction Project derived from the experience of large-scale outdoor WLAN construction on Nanjing Road (West) launched example for outdoor police monitor set up, equipment disguised wireless bridge relay transmission methods such as advanced application and conducted by China Mobile operators.
