Surface assembly technology (SMT), is one of the most popular process in theelectronic assembly industry, it is the process that using special electronic componentsSMD (surface Mounted Devices) with the solder paste after high temperature weldingjoint in PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Now electronics product development is quick a,SMT motherboard, which plays a core role in the computer, network communicationequipment, mobile phones and other products, almost all of the calculation is done bythe motherboard. SMT has become a big industry. However, for SMT productionsystem, most of the studies are focusing on process technology improvement andquality improvement, for its material management and material traceability are lessresearched.This paper first analyzes the SMT industry development background, points outthe problems of SMT materials management in the current environment--lead to theend product material mixed. Secondly, define the material identification through thebar code technology and the corresponding material coding rules. Again, throughmaterial management system, improve the product material mixed issue and materialtraceability systematically. Finally, this paper makes prospect of the materialmanagement system in SMT’s development and confirms the future developmentdirection of the industry.
