As an important part of precision agriculture, high efficient soil sampleacquisition is the prerequisite of variable rate fertilization. At present, themajor soil sampling method is sampling in the field by hand in China. Thereare fewer soil sampling devices which are produced through independentresearch and development in China. It is difficult for their applicationpromotion because they cannot provide friendly human-machine interfaces.As a result, the development of new intelligent control system for the currentsoil sampling device has a significant practical value.An overall control system has been designed based on the controlrequirement analysis of the current vehicle-mounted soil sampling device,which is integrated with Bluetooth wireless communication, embeddedcontrol technology, remote data transmission and information management.The control system includes the hand-held upper host computer controller,the vehicle-mounted driving unit and the remote soil sample informationmanagement system. The Android smart devices have been applied as thehand-held controller in order to co-operate with the vehicle-mounted drivingunit to realize the automatic control of the soil sampling devices and the human-machine interactive experience has been remarkably improved.Additional sampling auxiliary functions such as GPS positioning and GPRSdata transmission have also been integrated into the system to realize theacquisition and transmission of the geographical information of the samplingpoints. Considering the sample information management requirements, soilsample information management platform has been established. Digitalstorage and management of the soil sample information has beenaccomplished through the combination of on-site barcode labels, remotedatabase storage and Web pages published by ASP.NET. Besides the strongintegrity and auxiliary functions, the system also has high level of versatilityand flexibility.The research works of this paper are as following.The embedded hand-held control device and the vehicle-mounteddriving unit have been realized. STC12C5A60S2was applied as the CPU toachieve instruction reception and parse. The vehicle-mounted driving unit isalso responsible for magnetic valve driving and device status monitoring.Soil sampling control application software has been developed based onthe Android smart control terminal to realize Bluetooth wirelesscommunication. The control protocol and the timing diagram of the controllogic have been designed.The soil sample information management system has been developedbased on the backend soil sample information database. The informationmanagement system includes the barcode label management, GPS datatransmission and digital management of the soil sample information.Practical soil sampling experiments have been carried out whichvalidate that the vehicle-mounted soil sampling device control system designed in this paper is functional reliable and easy to control. It is suitableunder multiple application circumstances. The newly designed controlsystem makes up for the weaknesses of the traditional sampling methods andpositively improves the automation level of vehicle-mounted soil samplingdevice.
