It is the construction of Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences digital sample that is a trial project launched by Institute of Chinese Science during the 10th Five-year. With the rapid development of computer technology, it is the database technique, network technology, modern information-based technique that supports the construction of digital sample greatly, which is a new kind of exploration. The number of soil samples is big and the budget of management is numerous. And there is not successful example by now. Therefore, it is deserved to further discuss and research as to how to display the information and data of soil samples directly and efficiently and to achieve the communication and share internationally. This study aimed to construct a soil sample database and its information system at first. I developed the digital of soil samples based on the theories and methods rapidly developing and achieved some significant results. They are as follows:1) The establishment of soil sample database standardsAccording to the norm of Chinese soil information system database and SOTER database, the soil sample database standards were built. The standards characterize distinctive features and extensive compatibility. The standards generally covers the foundation information, chemistry property, nutrient condition, grain components, the great chemical elements, the salt content, heavy metals content, organic pollutant content, photograph of the soil sample, which is more than 150 kinds of attributive information.2) The establishment of soil sample databaseThe soil sample database is developed with the normal method of database design, the process need analysis, concept structure design, logic structure design, the physics design etc adopted. The database model is built based on the relation database management system (RDBMS). The main table (the soil specimen general situation information form) and secondary table describing the attribute of the sample (the basic information forms, such as a series of physics and chemistry properties and the photograph forms) were designed, user can gain detailed information from the main table by certain query. What s more, by this mechanism, the occurrence of the redundancy data can be reduced as far as possible and the complement of the soil sample database is ensured.3) The analysis and design of SSMISThe object-oriented software was selected in SSMIS. The requirement analysis,system design, system implementation and test of process again and again should be carried out before the development of soil sample database management information system (SSMIS). The advanced method of OOA and OOD was adopted in the analysis and design of SSMIS, and the UML was used to describe the process of the system object module clearly. Also the MVC design mode followed strictly at the same time. So the established SSMIS can be easier to keep stable and to extend model. 4) The establishment of SSMISSSMIS is accomplished by using Java (Advanced Computer Language), UI (User Interface)-Made dynamically with JSP, System Business Logic manipulated by JavaBeans and Servlets, interacted between JDBC and RDBMS. Finally I achieved the system architecture of B/S three classes in SSMIS.All in all, there are many merits in SSMIS, such as the collection quantitated, the operation computerized, the network delivered, the resources share of soil information etc; After changing digital information from all kinds of solid soil sample, SSMIS can store these transformation rapidly and provides valid information service for local and remote users.
