Image capture and processing system is an integrated system which can achieve the function of image signal capture and digital signal processing. With the rapid development of computer technology and electronic technology, image processing technology has applied extensively in industry, aviation, military, medical and other fields.More and more industries and equipments start to use image capture and processing system. With the advantages of great flexibility, low cost, short development cycle, parallel and pipeline design in hardware,FPGA is very suitable for image processing, which can meet the image processing requirements of enormous data and high speed. An open image processing platform based on FPGA was designed in this paper, using dynamic self-reconfiguration design method. It can reconfigure part of system’s functions and change processing algorithms quickly which meet the requirement of open. The whole system consists of image acquisition, storage, processing, display and reconfiguration module. It can complete configuration of the decoder chip and encoder chip through I2C bus. When the system is working, image data collected by camera is decoded into digital signal by decoder chip, and then deposited in the SRAM.FPGA will remove the noise from images, output the image data and display them on the monitor. Reconfiguration module can be dynamically configured under the control of microprocessor embedded in the FPGA and transfers configuration data though the internal configuration access port(ICAP), without affecting other modules’functions. The design is achieved with software Xilinx ISE which proved the correctness and feasibility of the platform design and verified the superiority of dynamic reconfiguration technology in the hardware resource reconfiguration.
