In1999, China began to enter the aging society. The pace of population aging has been faster and faster and the aging problem has become a major issue generally concerned by the country and society. In order to improve life quality of the elderly, the state and society are making efforts to provide a secure life, at the same time, they are also actively trying to enrich the spiritual and cultural life of the elderly.As an important spiritual production suppler, the television is a medium contacted frequently in the elderly" s everyday life, but it pays less attention to them,there are only small amounts of TV programs for the elderly and the quality among them is inferior, moreover, there are even fewer TV channels aimed at the elderly, which is unable to meet the increasing spiritual demand of the elderly.The topic of this paper is more meaningful under such social circumstance. In the study process, the author had collected and read a large amount of references and bibliographies, in addition,the author also had carried on a questionnaire survey and studied the characteristics of the elderly. Based on all these materials, the author analyzed the present situation of the TV programs for the old. In the paper, the author selected a TV program for the old——XiYang Hong and lao nian fu Channel on Shanxi TV station as representative cases and found that old-aged TV in our country has a couple of weaknesses, for instance, the amount of the old shows is severely limited. The author also raised some proposals to the development of old-aged TV at the end, more precisely, firstly, improve the quality of TV programs for the old; secondly, increase the propaganda; thirdly, expand the channels of distribution finally, learn the advanced experience from other programs.
