As nonprofit cultural institutions, museums create their value mainly through providing service for the public. As early as in the last century, Mr Cai Yuanpei said that museum was "a place for ordinary people to cultivate elegant interests". It enables people to rest actively and entertain nobly.Good display contents and modes can shorten the distance between the museum exhibition and the audience. Personalized service can give the audience a better visiting experience in the museum. If museums want to establish reasonable relationship among their collections, displays and audiences, museum audience research must be emphasized and has the priority in the daily operation to follow the distance between the interest and the demand of the audience.The Traditional museums realize their education function mainly through direct interaction with their visitors. One of the means is to conduct displays. When involving the display effect, attracting power is the first point to pay attention, because it’s related to the effective knowledge express; holding power is just as important, it demands to establish a long-term relationship with audience. The balance between attracting and holding powers ensures the most effective communication with the public. The purpose of this paper is based on the museum audience survey conducted in Changzhou Museum. The research is about the influence of the display design to the audience’s attention. I hope that my research can deepen museums’ understanding to their visitors, and help to effectively improve museums’display design and daily operation.This article first presents exhibition content and means of Changzhou Museum. Then combining the statistical materials got from the stage of the preliminary and formal investigation, I analyze the natural characteristics, structure, and behavior of the audience of Changzhou Museum. In the survey data processing stage, I use SPSS statistical software for data analysis, systematically find out the influence on the audience attention of the display content and design. I also discover the differences of attention among audiences with different physical characteristics. Finally aiming at the problems found during the investigation process, I put forward some pertinent suggestions to the museum display design and management.
