TV phenomenon of Channel Specialization first appeared in the1970s in theUnited States, the Europe and developed countries have been quite mature. In China,specialized TV channels appeared later, most of the specialized channels areunprofessional, programs are similar, the overall strength is not enough, a single rigidmode of operation, the main problem is hard to find the source of programs.Travel Channel was founded in January2002by the Hainan TV revision comes,it is China’s first provincial tourism-themed TV channel, the first specialized channelcomes from the comprehensive channel, and also the first channel which has aninjection of private capital, the first cross-regional operation of TV channels. Aftermore than ten years of development, the Travel Channel has become a pioneer ofspecialized channels.Based on this trend of television industry, with the particularity of the TravelChannel, I chose this topic finally. As a model of the successful development ofspecialized channels, no matter the positioning of the channel and audience, or theprograms setting and scheduling, or the brand packaging or production and operation,the Travel Channel are worthy for other specialized channels learn from theirexperience.Firstly, I regard the concept of television channels and professional developmentas a starting point, providing a detail description of the conditions and the power itgenerates, and the status of domestic and professional development channels, to givethe development environment for competition and other channels specialized research.Secondly, through the background of the Travel Channel, channel positioning,audience reach and several generous revision background overview, I give theanalysis of the development process, focusing on content analysis after bedding. Next,is the first focus of this study: the skills of the Travel Channel’s programs design andlayout. I regard the most successful program as the main example, to analyze thesuccessful skills of the design and layout of its programs for other specializedchannels. Next, is the second focus of this article: Analysis of the packaging of the Travel Channel. I use the principles of channel packaging and strategies to analyze theTravel Channel’s logo, slogan, image videos and hosts, summarize TV branding andpromotion experience. Finally, based on the foregoing analysis, I summarize thesuccessful and failed experience of the Travel Channel, providing some experience toother specialized channels in the development of our country, and to give aperspective of the development of the specialized channels in China.
