As two adjoining provinces, Guangxi and Yunnan afe the bridgeheads to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for China. To coordinate to advertise the construction of the free trade area between China and ASEAN and to enlarge audiences’understanding to ASEAN, Guangxi Daily and Yunnan Daily firstly created the special issues of ASEAN in the nationwide and this lasts to nowadays, playing as the main force of publicizing and reporting in our country.Researching Guangxi Daily and Yunnan Daily as the object of study, the writer used methods of literature research, content analysis, comparative research, and related theories of editing newspapers to analyze how the ASEAN special issues in these two newspapers presented news and what similarities and differences are between them.The research showed that both of the special issues in these two newspapers used diverse journalistic, reported mainly about commercial topics*established abundant columns, concentrated more on their own journalists’ interviews, adopted the modular layouts, etc. However, the ASEAN special issues of Guangxi Daily focused more on the instructions, professionalism, and theoretical property to demonstrate that Guangxi is an important gateway connecting to the ASEAN, while the ASEAN special issues of Yunnan Daily focused more on the news planning, service, and interaction to strengthen the open figure of Yunnan Province.Consequently, based on the existence of imbalances of reporting locations, lack of interaction, unprofessional special issues, fake number of news photos, etc. in Guangxi Daily and Yunnan Daily, the writer put forward the suggestions such as establishing the mechanism of cooperation, carrying out brand strategy, insisting creation, increasing the information flow-rate and so on in order to bring the ASEAN special issues the greater improvement and the better effect of dissemination.
